one may want to know more about what they are arguing or commenting on. i believe tioga used to make a high flow pump for the Z. as for increasing flow, one doesn't necessary need to increase the pump or gear size, but merely reduce the restrictions. smoothing out sharp corners, increasing the orifice size which the fluid is moving through, smoothing the surface which the fluid moves through all can increase flow by decreasing the head losses (fluid resistance). i can agree in part about the 17% increase as i have mentioned this to Mitch, with no data, some will just argue for the sake of arguing, but to say that the only way to increase flow is to increase the pump size is an ignorant statement when there is no data to support the statement. one would need to know how efficient the factory setup is and if one looks closely at the design, it can be seen that the pump has very sharp 90degree corners and a smaller orifice than the pump can use (one reason the pump has bypass holes and a pressure regulator to keep the gears from overrunning the viscosity of the fluid), the pump gears have the ability to flow significantly over stock, but then the block becomes the limiting factory. using larger gears, helps move more fluid with less work and less abuse to the fluid it is moving. overall, porting the oil pump will improve flow, but until a flow test is completed, the percentage gains can only be estimated or speculated. personally, i have two clients running the ported pumps... how much it helps is unknown, but for the cost, the peace of mind knowing the pump is about as good as it is going to get before going to a larger pump capacity is worth it to me and my clients while they are on the track. -aliaz, you really need to settle down a bit. the bashing is not very becoming and i feel you have the ability to provide good info in a professional manner, but lately it has not appeared that way.

Best run: 1.60 60', 11.319 @ 120.65 mph - 118 octane fuel (on 100 octane tune), 22 degrees of timing, 21-22 psi boost, 11 psi tire pressure (street slicks). "..know your car better... RACE IT!.. AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE.." "Drag racing is for fast cars... Autocross is for fast drivers... Drifting is for cheap tires..." I made up the last one.. |
